Gus McLaren was born in Melbourne in 1923. His work as a
cartoonist, animator, potter, scultptor and painter has spanned over 6 decades.
This section is devoted to show-casing a small representation of his work, throughout his life. His style has developed and changed over these years from early figurative and comic / cartoon style through a more sculptural and textural form, (his stoneware period) and then returning to earthenware, which enabled a brightly coloured decorative period. And then finally, his later work and paintings are completely abstract, using geometric shapes and bold colours.
What we are attempting here is an “introduction” to the work of Gus McLaren, and later we expect to expand this to show a full retrospective of his life’s work.
